Match fixing claims levelled at NRL
26/09/09 07:37 AM
The National Rugby League (NRL) says it will later today respond to allegations of match fixing in a round 26 match between the Sydney Roosters and North Queensland Cowboys.
The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting serious questions were raised by the match played at the Sydney Football Stadium in the final round of the NRL regular season.
Reports say bookmakers suspended betting three times before the match.
The match had no impact on the make-up of the finals with the Cowboys already out of contention for the top eight and the Roosters battling to avoid the wooden spoon.
The Roosters led 16-0 at the 33 minute mark before conceding 26 unanswered points to lose the game.
A spokesman for the NRL says they will release a statement in relation to the allegations later this morning.
